CANDIDA

Candida is an extremely adaptive, evasive, resistant and persistent organism. Candida has the ability to mutate into a drug resistant strain. Drugs such as Nizoral, Fluconazole (Diflucan), Lamisil, and Nystatin do kill candida but do not work forever because of the candida’s ability to become drug resistant. These drugs do not prevent candida from coming back and do very little for internal infestation, which is the root of the problem Nutritional and herbal treatments are the most effective treatments for candida. 

The treatment of candida includes: correcting constipation, correcting pH levels, including a healthy diet that greatly restricts the carbohydrate in-take, utilizes a combination of herbs to eliminate the excess candida, a probiotic to replenish the bacterial flora, also incorporates a cleansing programme to rid the body of accumulated toxins and hidden yeast, and the immune systems must be strengthened.

As always, Chiropractic adjustments are a vital part of each treatment protocol to improve the blood and verve supply to the affected areas. Increasing the oxygen content in the body will speed up the recovery considerably. 

Most candida conditions are correctable but not all candida patients are. This is because not everyone will do all the things necessary to eliminate this condition. 

Goal of the Candida Programme

Candida destroys the health and energy of the body. The toxins that the yeast eliminates into the blood and tissues are what cause this destruction. Candida will affect the areas of the body that have low resistance due to subluxations. Nutritional deficiencies and imbalances occur in these areas producing chronic fatigue, aches and pains, and the many symptoms associated with candida. Our goal is to eliminate the harmful effects of candida on the body and reverse the damage to the organs and nerves caused by its toxins. 

Candida Treatment Protocol 

Candida will proliferate more freely in an acidic, toxic, sluggish and constipated environment. It prefers the high carbohydrate diet so prevalent in today’s society. Therefore, when trying to eliminate candida, it is best to also eliminate refined sugar completely. Many people are constipated because the nerve supply to the intestines is interfered with. This is caused by a subluxation in the lumbar spinal region. These subluxations must be corrected as well or the herbal preparations do  not have a lasting effect. When your bowel movements are regular, twice a day, every day, then you’re ready to proceed with the diet and herbs to eliminate candida.

The Candida Diet

Much has been written about dietary recommendations for the candida elimination programme. The following are the books that I recommend.

The Purpose of the Candida Diet is to Decrease the Sugar that Feeds the Yeast

There isn’t any quick fix to eliminating candida. It takes a minimum of one month to eliminate mild infestations and up to six months for very severe ones. Most people are sick due to the large amount of toxins that they consume. High toxic diets require an enormous amount of nutritional supplements to neutralize the toxins. Diets that are not toxic require less supplementation. Some lifestyle changes may be required, and some of the foods that compose the majority of your diet may be the very ones that are producing your problems. You may have to restrict or eliminate these foods. 

Yeast thrives on sugar in order to grow. After the yeast eats sugar, it ferments in the intestines and produces a toxin called acetaldehyde, which affects all the body functions including digestion and hormone production. A high sugar diet is one of the main factors in the proliferation of candida.

A Low Carbohydrate, High Protein Diet Must be Incorporated

  • Sugar must be avoided in all its forms; white sugar, brown sugar, raw sugar, honey, maple sugar, molasses, corn syrup, date sugar, barley malt, fruit sugar, and milk products. Refer to the Glycemic index below for the sugar content of foods. 
  • Sugar is also given many other names to disguise it on labels such as glucose, sucrose, fructose, dextrose, lactose, and maltose.      
  • Most fruits are high in sugar whether they’re dried, fresh, canned, or in juice form and therefore must be eliminated for the duration of the diet. Prior to the introduction of the glycemic index we used to recommend no fruit at all but there are a few fruits that are very low on the glycemic index. For example, grapefruit, cherries, peaches, pears, and plums. But use sparingly.  
  • Commercially prepared beverages such as pop, diet or regular, and sweetened soft drinks/juice must be avoided. 
  • Other high carbohydrate foods that must be eliminated: all refined four products, breads, pasta, noodles, white rice, crackers, doughnuts, muffins, cookies, cake, pie, ice cream, and desserts in general. 
  • Alcoholic beverages are very high in carbohydrates and must be totally avoided. Beer, wine, champagne, liquors, cordials, and mixed drinks. 
  • Any grain that has been puffed, for example; popcorn, rice cakes, and puffed cereals are extremely high on the glycemic index and must be avoided.
  • Other foods that convert into simple carbohydrates are: wheat, oats, rye, corn, millet, milk products, cheese, and white potatoes. 
  • Anything that is mashed or instant is also high on the glycemic index.
  • Ice cream, sauces, gravies, processed snacks, frozen yogurt, mustard, ketchup, chocolate are also included in this list of no no’s. 
  • Keep the foods you consume in the 60 and under range, on the Glycemic index, to keep the sugar content low. 

Glycemic Index

Not all carbohydrates affect the body equally. The glycemic index rates how fast certain foods raise sugar levels in the body. Sugar and white flour are rated at 100 and all other foods are either less or more reactive. Ratings above 100 will raise sugar levels faster than normal sugar. 

Factors that influence the glycemic index are: the type of carbohydrate, the amount of fiber in the food, the amount of protein and fat, and the method of cooking or processing of the food also affects the absorption. 

The following index does not list all foods. Generally the more fiber, fat, and/or protein in the food the lower the glycemic index. 

Refined processed sugars and flours have a higher glycemic index. I ran a weight loss business in Toronto in the ‘80s and we unknowingly recommended popcorn, rice cakes and carrots as the preferred snacks. These foods would elevate blood sugar levels considerably and increase the production of insulin. Insulin converts excess blood sugar into fat.We were getting good results but I’m sure they would have been much better if we’d known about the glycemic index.

Other Foods to Avoid:

  • Caffeinated beverages must be eliminated. Coffee, regular teas, all pops, hot chocolates and cocoa.
  • Some fermented foods promote yeast growth and must be avoided. Beer, cheese, vinegar, wine, soy sauce, commercial pasteurized sauerkraut, most commercial soups, barbecue potato chips, and dry roasted nuts. (Exception, Dr. T’s Probiotic Cocktail, because of the good bacteria content)
  • Vinegar and vinegar containing foods: pickles, relish, green olives, salad dressings, and mayonnaise. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for salads. 
  • Many foods contain a lot of mold and must be eliminated. This is not to reduce the Candida but it takes away some of the stress on the immune system that can produce allergic reactions. These foods are: nuts, beans, mushrooms, and vinegar.
  • Supermarket eggs, chicken, turkey, beef, and other meats contain hormones and steroid residues that feed the yeast and they also may contain some hidden antibiotics. Use organic meats if you can.  
  • Avoid fried foods and highly refined packaged foods as much as possible.
  • Avoid pickled, smoked, or dried meats, sausages, salami, hot dogs, pickled tongue, corned beef, pastrami, smoked sardines, and any fish dishes that are smoked or dried. 
  • Bacon, and country style cured pork are usually coated with mold. 
  • All cheeses are moldy and should be avoided. 
  • Mold grows on vegetables therefore they should be washed thoroughly before eating. Use a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. 
  • Avoid any juices that have citric acid added to them as citric acid is a byproduct of yeast and may cause allergic reactions. 
  • Peanuts and peanut butter have a toxic mold called aflatoxin present. Therefore, avoid peanuts and peanut butter. 

Some of you are sitting there in a cold sweat thinking: “he just told me I shouldn’t have any of my favorite foods, everything I usually eat, there’s nothing left”. People with Candida have a strong insatiable craving for the above foods, but it is the candida talking, not you. You must be strong and stick to this diet even if only on a gradient scale. 

Now for the Good News, the Following Is a List of the Things that You Can Eat:

  • Meats, fowl and eggs are okay, but organic is preferred.
  • Grains such as amaranth, quinoa, buckwheat, spelt flaxseed, and any of the sprouted grains are recommended. 
  • All vegetables are recommended, preferably raw, but they must be washed thoroughly before use with a 3% peroxide solution. 
  • Soaked and sprouted almonds are permitted.
  • Redskin potatoes and wild rice are also good. Ocean vegetables are especially recommended. 

Helpful Hints for Candida Treatment:

  1. Use lots of garlic – candida does not like it
  2. Use fresh lemon instead of vinegar for salads
  3. Keep the use of dairy products to a bare minimum
  4. Rotate your foods on a four-day basis. This means do not eat the same food for four days
  5. Do not over eat. Have smaller portions. This allows for more complete digestion and minimizes allergic reactions
  6. Be sure to include all the different colors in your vegetable selection
  7. Eat most, if not all, your vegetables raw. The next best method is slightly steamed
  8. Slow cookers and crock-pots are an ideal way to prepare food, as they do not oer heat the food and destroy the nutritional value
  9. Very important to eat according to your blood type
  10. Observe the food combining guidelines
  11. Eat your proportions according to the Zone diet

What Can I Eat for Breakfast

This is a question we get frequently after people read the diet recommendations. 

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Eggs boiled or poached
  2. Toasted manna bread or essene breads- (Sprouted grain breads) use toaster oven
  3. Home fries (redskin potatoes) 
  4. Whole-grain cereals, (Buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa, and spelt) with soy or rice milk
  5. Vegetable omelet
  6. Cold cereals (shredded wheat, all bran, and cheerios)
  7. Cooked cereals (shredded wheat, all ran, and cheerios)

What Can I Drink?

  1. Lots and lots of water
  2. Soymilk, rice milk, and almond milk
  3. Taheebo or Pau D’arco tea. (This is an excellent antifungal agent)
  4. Mineral water with lemon
  5. Soda water with lime
  6. Other herb teas such as Green Tea, and Banchi Twig Tea, and Ginseng Tea
  7. Super-charged oxygenated water

The closer you follow these dietary recommendations the sooner you will start to see improvements. If you continue to eat any of the things that are not recommended you’re sabotaging your results and you may never eliminate the yeast to the point where you are healthy again.

The Herbal Complications for Candida Treatment

Go to the health food store and get the following ingredients 1. Caproil (Caprilic acid in an olive oil base), 2. Bentonite, 3. Psyllium seed powder, 4. Acidophilus, 5. Full spectrum digestive enzymes, and 6. Chlorophyll.

The first four ingredients are usually available in what is called a Candida kit. If it is not available in a kit you can buy them separately. 

The acidophilus varies in price from $16.00 to $30.00 a bottle. Do not skimp on the acidophilus, you must get the best quality. The DDS type, filtered not centrifuged, products are best. 

Do not get acidophilus if it is not kept in the refrigerator. There are a few products on the market that advertise that they are not heat sensitive but the actual amount of active bacteria that reaches your intestines is very small. Go with what works. Also get liquid chlorophyll if you can.

Mixing instructions:

Use either a blender or a jar with a lid so you can shake it.

  • Place six ounces of unchlorinated filtered water in the blender
  • With two ounces of unsweetened juice for flavor
  • Add: 3 tablespoons of Bentonite
  • 1 heaping teaspoon of Psyllium seed powder
  • 1 eyedropper of Chlorophyll 

Preparation

  •  Mix quickly. If using a blender, just push the pulse button once or twice to mix completely. If using a bottle, shake vigorously for just a few seconds. Do not blend for any length of time or you will have a pudding, not a drink.
  • Drink immediately, if you let it sit it will gel and you will have to eat it with a spoon. 
  • Make sure you drink lots of water to keep the gelled psyllium seed moving.
  • Do not allow yourself to get constipated under any circumstances. You do not want the toxins from the die-off leaking back into your system. 
  • Take acidophilus first thing in the morning (see instructions below)
  • Take two digestive enzymes before each meal.

Intense Programme:

Drink mixture twice a day, 30 minutes before breakfast, and 30 minutes before you go to bed. The duration of the intense program depends on your score on the Candida questionnaire or the severity of the yeast observed on the EDS or the DM analysis. Do the Candida questionnaire and compare your score. 

  • Mild cases should do the kit for 3 to 6 weeks. 
  • Moderate cases do the kit for 6 to 12 weeks 
  • Severe cases for 12 to 18 weeks. 

A full kit lasts for three weeks.

Maintenance:

Once or twice a year it is a good idea to repeat the Candida kit. Once a day for a month. I personally have repeated this for many years as a precaution and still do it occasionally. Have a repeat EDS or DM test done to be certain you have eliminated the Candida. 

Function of Ingredients:

  • Caproil is Caprylic acid in a base of olive oil. The caprylic acid is the substance that kills the yeast (Candida).
  • Bentonite is organic clay that acts as a giant sponge soaking up all the toxins in the intestine. Especially important are the ones from the die-off from the yeast. 
  • Psyllium seed is a bulking fiber agent that gels together in the intestine and acts like a plunger to eliminate all of the toxins and dead yeast that get stuck in the gel. 
  • Acidophilus is the good bacteria that are present in the intestines and vagina. The average healthy person has 4 to 5 pounds present at all times. People with Candida have very little. Therefore, it is necessary to replenish this deficit and keep it maintained. 
  • Digestive enzymes such as cellulose and amylase will digest the common kinds of yeast and help re-establish friendly bacteria. 
  • Chlorophyll helps to oxygenate the intestines and candida is an anaerobic organism which means that they do not function well in an oxygenated environment. Bioxy also oxygenates the intestines and is an excellent additive ingredient to help clean out the intestines. 
  • Super Charged Ozonated Water adds extra oxygen to the equation, which speeds up the recovery rate and acts as a catalyst for all the other ingredients.
  •  Hepatica for the liver and Uro Harmony for the kidneys. Candida is very adaptive and evasive and will hide in the liver and kidneys until you have finished trying to flush it out. The Candida will lay dormant for a while and then surface again in full force. Therefore, I recommend that you do a kidney and bladder cleanse immediately after finishing the Candida kit. You may purchase these cleanses at the health food store. 

Other Products:

The above kit is not the best for kids, and some people prefer to use a pill form to eliminate the Candida. There are many products available at the Health food store or from our office, consult the last chapter for assistance with products.

  1. Liquid form for kids, Candex by Vitamost.
  2. Pill form, Candida Stop by New Roots Herbal, Formula Candida by Organica, Yeast defense by Purity Life. 
  3. Oil of Oregano and Orega Max are other excellent additive therapies to speed up the healing process.

These products tend to take a little longer. When you combine the Super Charged Ozone Water with any of the protocols the healing/cleansing time required is much less. 

Probiotics and Acidophilus

What is the best way to take acidophilus?

Most people have gone their whole life without replenishing the good bacteria in their intestines. Acidophilus is the good bacteria in their intestines. Acidophilus is the good bacteria that keep the yeast under control Each yeast cell requires millions of acidophilus to keep it neutralized. Acidophius also aids in digestion and helps keep the fecal matter moving in the intestines. Everyone could benefit from periodic supplementation with additional acidophilus. 

Care must be taken when using acidophilus because it is very delicate and can be destroyed in a number of ways before it reaches the intestines. The following is a list of substances that destroy good bacteria. 

  1.   Antibiotics
  2. Birth control pills
  3. Cortisone drugs
  4. Prednisone
  5. Steroids
  6. Antibiotics in meat
  7. Chlorine in water
  8. Hydrochloric acid 
  9. High sugar diet
  10. High alcohol use

How to Take Acidophilus:

Take acidophilus on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning; 15 to 20 minutes before you take your Candida shake. Take six or more capsules at a time. If the acidophilus is taken with your meals the digestive juices destroy a large percentage of it. 

  1. Use reverse osmosis or distilled water to avoid the chlorine/fluoride from city water. 
  2. If you are taking birth control pills, then you need to take extra acidophilus everyday to replenish the good bacteria that are destroyed by the birth control pill.
  3. As long as you drink unfiltered city water then you need to take extra acidophilus because the chlorine kills much of the good bacteria in your intestine. 
  4. If you eat meats from the supermarket that has been treated with antibiotics then you need extra acidophilus because the chlorine kills much of the good bacteria in your intestine.
  5. Instead of taking antibiotics we recommend natural remedies such as Echinacea and GoldenSeal, three times a day, and up to 5,000mg of Vitamin C. These substances enhance the immune systems ability to fight off foregin invaders and do not destroy the good bacterial flora. 
  6. Supercharged Ozonated Water kills harmful bacteria and does not harm the beneficial bacterial flora, it also helps to destroy the yeast. 

If you take antibiotics, in spite of this advice, then you must compensate for its destructive activity on your good bacteria and replenish it heavily, with acidophilus before, during, and for one month after antibiotic use. 

Duration of Acidophilus use: 

Take acidophilus for the full duration of the Candida kit and continue it on an intensive basis for two months after you finish the kit. A maintenance dose of two capsules a day is a good idea Once or twice a year it is a good idea to replenish the bacterial flora on an intensive basis, at least one bottle. You may also choose to make our probiotic cocktail on a regular basis. 

  • Once the yeast and bacteria are in balance, then care must be taken to keep them that way. 
  • Restricted foods are to be eaten sparingly, if at all. 
  • It is better to avoid the restricted foods, as most candida sufferers will always have slight allergic type reactions to these substances. 
  • Sugar consumption must be kept at a minimum, always. 
  • Acidophilus should be continued on a maintenance basis. 
  • Periodically, once or twice a year, another kit should be done for the next 10 years. 

Friendly bacteria are essential to regaining and maintaining health. The Greek word biotikos means life or living, pro means for, and anti means against. Therefore, antibiotics destroy or are against life and probiotics are for or promote life. 

Friendly Bacteria or Probiotics Play a  Critical Role in Maintaining Health:

  • Destroys bad bacteria and viruses
  • Helps in digestion of fats and protein
  • Manufacturers Vit. B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, Biotin, Folic acid, and Vit K
  • Produces hydrogen peroxide and lactase, which are natural antibiotics
  • Controls levels of LD L. cholesterol (bad cholesterol) (DDS strain is the best for this)
  • Anti-cancer agent. 
  • Enhances the immune system
  • Is essential for liver detoxification
  • Controls yeast overgrowth 
  • Maintains normal intestinal regularity
  • Balances sex hormones
  • Maintains healthy skin 
  • Prevents cold sores
  • Aids in the elimination of toxins from the colon
  • Helps prevent genital/urinary infections

Good bacteria and bad bacteria are in a constant battle for dominance in the body. On order to maintain health it is essential to help the good bacteria dominate at all times. Avoiding the foods and drugs that destroy the good bacteria and concentrating on the food and nutrients that benefit the good bacteria. 

Foods That Support Good Bacteria

Vegetables, vegetables, and more vegetables are what the doctor urges you to eat to feed the good bacteria. Especially leafy green vegetables such as: broccoli (always slightly steamed), kale and cabbage. All of these promote the manufacturing of lactic acid, which feeds the friendly bacteria. Also include: whole grains, fresh fruits, fresh nuts and cold pressed unrefined oils. Fermented foods are an excellent source of friendly bacteria. Sauerkraut or fermented cabbage juices should be consumed daily to improve the health of one’s bacterial flora. Dr. T’s Probiotic Cocktail is also an excellent, inexpensive way to ensure adequate bacterial flora.  

Foods that Support the Bad Bacteria

Junk food tops the list of food to avoid. Fast foods, deep-fried foods, processed pre-packaged meals, processed luncheon meats, rancid oils and nuts, sugar, white flour, processed dairy foods, and excess animal fats. These foods are toxic to the body; they produce Free Radicals and increase the level of bad bacteria. 

That Type of a Probiotic Should be Used?

To answer this question it is necessary to understand the structure of bacteria and how some manufacturers are taking advantage of our lack of knowledge regarding production of various probiotic products. 

A mature bacterium consists of 12 links that are joined together to form 1 bacterium. Bacteria that have been cultured on a growing medium must be separated before packaging. There are two methods of separation. 

  1. High-speed centrifuge is the type that separates the links. 
  2. Filtration is the method used on DDS-1 strain of acidophilus and does not destroy this linkage. 

Probiotic brands that have been centrifuged boast of high bacteria counts of ten billion. When in fact they are counting the links, which are fragmented bacteria and not the whole bacteria was contained in the DDS-1 strain. The DDS strain will contain only one billion active complete bacteria, but they are much more effective. 

When buying probiotics make sure that they have been filtered not centrifuged. Is there any difference between powders, capsules, tablets, waers, and probiotics that do not need to be refrigerated? Yes, there is a big difference. Powder and capsules are much more beneficial. The heat and pressure used to produce tablets and wafers will destroy the bacteria. 

There are many types of probiotics that maintain they do not have to be refrigerated. It is not advisable to use these because heat shortens their life span and effectiveness considerably. 

Probiotics are freeze-dried after they are produced to preserve them. They are inactive at this state; they must be maintained at low temperatures (in the refrigerator). When these freeze-dried bacteria are exposed to warmer temperatures they become active and start to consume the powdered food contained in the capsule (either in a dairy base or rice base). When this food source is used up the bacteria start to consume each other. The stronger bacteria eat the weaker ones and if the product is left on the shelf, unused, for any length of time, the strong ones will die as well because their source of food has run out. 

The longer any probiotic is not refrigerated the less effective it is. The companies that maintain that their product has so many billions of active bacteria are giving you statistics from the time of manufacturing. These figures do not represent the amount of active bacteria present when you consume them. 

Recommendations:

  • Probiotics in powder or capsule form are preferred. Do not waste your money on probiotics that are not refrigerated. 
  • What about yogurt as a source of probiotics? Any commercial yogurt that has been pasteurized kills the active bacteria. 
  • How do I get the best results from taking probiotics? Since the good bacteria can be destroyed by the digestive process (stomach acids) it is advisable to decrease the amount of time the good bacteria spends in the stomach. 
  • The best way to do this is to take the probiotics on an empty stomach with a glass of distilled or reverse osmosis water (never chlorinated water).

Lactose Intolerance

If you are lactose intolerant, then it is advisable to use a probiotic that is non-dairy based. One of the functions of the DDS-1 strain of probiotics is that this form of bacteria actually produces the enzyme lactase, which aids in the digestion of lactose from dairy products. Consuming this type of probiotic can reverse lactose intolerance.

Additional Nutritional Supplements 

These supplements are needed to help build the immune system and aid in digestion efficiency. The following is the suggested daily dosages:

B vitamins: 12 milligrams of each (Increases antibody response and are used in almost all body functions) 

Vitamin C: 4 to 5 grams (Also helps in the immune process, and is an antioxidant)

Vitamin E: 400 to 800 IU (Lack of vitamin E. depresses the immune system and decreases the body’s ability to carry oxygen, it is also an antioxidant)

Vitamin A: 10,000 IU (Increases resistance to infection, is an antioxidant, and increases immune response)

Beta-carotene: 10,000 IU (Helps vitamin A and increases T-cells)

Antioxidants: Selenium, zinc, grape seed extract, or the best of all Microhydrin (antioxidants neutralize Free Radical damage). 

Essential fatty acids: 2 tbsp. a day (usually lacking in Candida patients)

Evening primrose oil: 6 capsules daily (beneficial for irritability/mood changes)

Oil of Oregano: is extremely beneficial in the treatment of Candida. Take several drops under the tongue 3 times a day, for 3 weeks. Then take 2 drops, twice daily as maintenance. Apply topically to visible fungal infections.

Bioxy: Helps to oxygenate the intestine, which aids in eliminating the anaerobic agents (Candida, parasites, anaerobic bacteria, and viruses)

Immunocal: Helps the immune system in eliminating the Candida. 

Enzymes: Adding Cellulose to the Candida protocol helps to dissolve the outer causing of the candida and speeds up the recovery.

Viral Infections

I mentioned in Chapter 3 that the best way to diagnose viruses was to use the EDS. Last Christmas a number of people had a flu that was not responding to normal treatment protocol. It wasn’t until we did an EDS evaluation of these patients and determined that it was a viral flu. We changed the treatment protocol to Naturopathic and herbal remedies specific for viruses and consequently eliminated the flu-like conditions in two days. 

The best defense against viral infections is a strong and healthy immune system. The viruses are opportunistic organisms that will infect the body when the immune system is overburdened or functioning at low-level.

Consult with a Naturopath in your area, for the types of remedies available for treating viruses. Your local health food store will also have Naturopathic and herbal remedies suitable for viruses. 

It is important to note that antibiotics have no effect on viral infections. Oftentimes we see antibiotics recommended for the flu when there had not been anny differential examination to determine whether it’s viral or bacterial.

Viruses are anaerobic and therefore, cannot live in an oxygenated environment. Oxygen therapies are very effective in eliminating viruses. 

Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) This virus causes the debilitating teenage infection called Mononucleosis. About 90% of the population is exposed to EBV, but only a small percentage of those infected, become seriously ill. Some people just experience flu-like symptoms for a few days, while others show no symptoms at all. However, the EBV can remain inactive in the body for a lifetime. Normally a healthy immune system keeps this virus in this state. However, if the immune system becomes overburdened or suppressed the EBV will take the opportunity to become inactive. 

Herpes is another virus that is always present in the human body and starts to flourish and cause symptoms when the immune system is suppressed.  Canker sores, genital herpes, and shingles are all from the herpes family.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) also remains inactive in the body awaiting its chance to take advantage of a suppressed immune system. We inherit this virus from our mother while in the womb. Less than 3% of the population manifest any symptoms of CMV. CMV symptoms are very similar to EBV symptoms, and can cause up to 10 or 15% of all mononucleosis cases. 

Treatment:

Oil of Oregano has very effective antiviral properties and is taken under the tongue 3 drops 3 times a day until the EDS shows that they are eliminated.

Immunocal (HMS 90) is helpful in boosting the immune system, which further increases the potential of the different protocols. 

Oxygen therapies are also beneficial for treating viral infections, because viruses cannot live in an oxygenated environment.

Bacteria 

There are many common bacterial infections that can contribute to FM/CFS. Such as: strep throat, tonsil and adenoid infections, ear infections, sinusitis, bronchitis, cystitis, and acne. Bacterial infections that are sexually transmitted may include: urinary bladder infection, genital infections, gonorrhea, and syphilis. 

Lyme disease is caused by a bacterial infection transmitted by the bite of an infected tick. 

Nile fever is caused by the bite of an infected mosquito. Any of the above bacterial or viral infections can cause chronic fatigue.

If the main symptom is Chronic Fatigue, Candida, parasite infections have been ruled out, then a thorough investigation must be done to determine if it is bacterial or viral.

When taking a case history for FM/CFS it is important to determine if there are any bacterial or viral infections contributing to the cause of their problem, and then treat these infections accordingly. For every infection that is eliminated, the immune system gains more strength to defend itself against foregin invaders. 

Testing for bacteria is done with the Darkfield Microscope. Testing for both bacteria and viruses is done with the ElectroDermal Screening. 

The things to do to prevent bacterial infections are the same as that for parasites. The best way to prevent and/or treat bacterial infections is with a healthy immune system.

Oxygen therapies are also beneficial for treating bacterial infections, because bacteria cannot live in an oxygenated environment either. 

Oil of Oregano is part of every treatment protocol that we recommend for bacterial infections of any kind. EDS re-testing confirms the success of the treatment protocol.

How Do I Get a Healthy Immune System?

An optimum functioning immune system is the result of the co-operative effort of many organs. They all must be functioning that 100% in order for the immune system to eliminate and prevent bacteria and viruses from proliferating.

  • The nerve supply to all the organs must be at its optimum. Therefore, it is necessary to have your spine and skull examined for subluxations and have all subluxations completely corrected. This will enable the organs related to the immune system to function at their best. 

In other words, see your Chiropractor and have your subluxations eliminated to maximize immune function. 

  • A full complement of vitamins and minerals is required for the immune system to perform all of its functions. Therefore, a full spectrum multivitamin and minerals supplement such as Complete, from Awareness, is advisable. 
  • Vitamin C is essential when fighting an infection, consumption should be increased to bowel tolerance. For an adult this would mean a minimum of 5,000 mg of Vitamin C per day. 
  • Antioxidants and Free Radical quenchers are necessary to bolster the immune system. Daily recommendations include; Vitamin A. 10,000 IU, Vitamin C 5,000mg, Vitamin E 800 IU, Selenium 200mcg, Zinc 25mg a day for males and 10mg a day for females, and Microhydrin 400mg. 
  • Herbal remedies, there are many that will boost the immune system:
  • Echinacea and Goldenseal tincture combination (nonalcoholic) one eyedropper full, three times a day, in juice.
  • Garlic capsules (Allison rich, deodorized) 3 to 6 a day
  • Astragalus either tincture or capsule three times a day
  • Olive Leaf Extract, twice per day
  • Wild Elderberry Extract, 1tbsp added to juice twice a day
  • Colloidal Silver added to the water kills over 600 different pathogens
  • Grapefruit Seed Extract is an excellent natural antibiotic. Add 5 to 10 drops to a glass of water every three hours
  • AG Immune is an excellent combination of ingredients to strengthen the immune system
  • Moducare is an excellent combination of ingredients to boost the immune system, two capsules three times a day

Usually the only herbal treatment necessary for colds and flu is the Echinacea and Goldenseal combination. When the flu is severe or stubborn then start adding the other remedies. 

Be careful in treating coughs with cough medicine because most cough medicines contain too much sugar and the sugar feeds the bacteria and viruses and interferes with Vit. C metabolism.

  • Oxygen in sufficient quantities can kill all viruses. 
  • The Whole Lemon Drink by Mark Konlee

“This drink flushes toxins from the liver and moves lymph fluid through the system thereby increasing the body’s immune system function”.

  • Cut up one medium lemon into quarters. This includes the rind and seeds. Place in the blender. 
  • Add 1 ½ cups of orange juice or other unsweetened juice or just water. 
  • Add 1 tbsp of cold pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil (from the health food store).
  • Blend at high speed for two minutes. 
  • Drink the remaining liquid. You may drink it all at once, or break down into two or three portions throughout the day. Take two capsules of lecithin with each drink
  • You may also add 1tbsp of whole leaf Aloe Vera juice. 
  • Blackstrap molasses can be added if the pH is low, 1tbsp. 3x a day.

  • Essiac Tea contains Sheep Sorrel, Indian Rhubarb, Burdock and Slippery Elm. It has received great notoriety for its cancer curing abilities. Essiac tea had been shown to increase natural killer cell counts in the blood, which improves the immune system’s ability to neutralize viruses. The Sheep Sorrel in Essiac stimulates complement activity. 

“The very first line of immune defense is “complement”, a substance that circulates in the blood that coats viruses and other antigens and tries to damage their membranes by poking holes in it as well as changing the shape of the virus. Compliment is a sticky substance that helps immune cells to identify viruses for destruction”. Although Essiac is sold as a blood cleanser and cancer cure it is also very good for stimulating the immune system.

  • Caster Oil packs were made popular by Edgar Casey.

Caster oil packs increase the white blood cell count and stimulate the production of T cells.

The Konlee Protocol

  • 28 treatments over a 4-week period.
  • Two days a week, the castor oil packs are done over the liver area (under the right rib cage).
  • Another two day a week, over the spleen area (at the bottom of the left rib cage area). 
  • Three days a week, the castor oil packs are done over the thymus gland area (upper middle chest area). 

How to make the caster oil pack:

  • Cut a piece of plastic to the size of an electric heating pad and place it on top of the heating pad.
  • Cut one layer of white cotton or white wool flannel to the same size and place it on top of the plastic.
  • Turn the heating pad on high. 
  • Pour ⅓ cup of cold pressed castor oil onto the centre of the flannel and spread manually out 2 inches from the edge of the flannel. 
  • After 5 minutes of preheating, lift up the oil pack and place the oil against the skin. 
  • Wrap a large bath towel over the heating pad.
  • Reduce the heating pad to medium.
  • Let it remain in place for 1 hour.
  • Remove the pack and massage the oil into the ski , then wipe dry with a towel. 
  • *Do not reuse this flannel again until it has been thoroughly washed in hot water and baking soda.

If a child does not get the mother’s first milk their immune system is not given the proper start. Immune System Accelerators

I call them accelerators because they activate the immune system and therefore, monopolize the immune system’s activity to the point where there is little left to fight disease. 

There are a number of items that steal the immune systems attention:

Excess alcohol, the adverse effects of aging, allergic reactions, toxic chemicals, pollution in our air and water, radiation, chemotherapy, drugs, marijuana, nicotine, lack of sleep, stress, depression, overeating, a pH level below 7, and nutritional deficiencies. 

The presence of any of the above items kicks the immune system into overdrive to handle the adverse effects on the body. Many people are overloading their immune system, to such an extent that the immune system becomes exhausted and unable to handle the dormant viruses and day-to-day bacteria. 

In order to strengthen the immune system you must eliminate all of the above accelerating factors and increase the nutritional content of the diet. Also, add supplements to compensate for existing deficiencies and have your subluxations corrected. 

When we find patients who are not getting good results it is because they refuse to change their toxic lifestyle and are just looking for a magic pill to cure their maladies. It doesn’t work this way. If you do not remove the accelerating factors, the immune system continues to be overworked and eventually breaks down.
