How to Eliminate Toxins From Your Body

How to Eliminate Toxins From Your Body

A toxic body is a sick body and therefore must be cleansed. Cleansing must be done on a gradient starting with a gentle cleansing to get things moving.

“In order to heal the body, first you must cleanse the body”.

The natural cleaning process of tears, urination, elimination of mucus, sweating, bowel movements, and menstrual periods must be kept functioning at an optimum level. When they are not, symptoms such as pimples, allergies, skin rashes, and diarrhea start to surface. The symptoms lead to weight gain, constipation, degenerative diseases, heart conditions, arthritis, obesity, diabetes and eventually cancer.

The balance between the amount of toxins taken in and the amount of nutrients taken in determine the formula for health. In most unhealthy people the amount of toxins far outweigh the amount of nutrition consumed on a daily basis.

The formula is very simple.

Decrease the amount of toxins consumed and increase the nutritional content of the diet.

Recommended Cleansing Programmes

There are many different methods of cleansing. The details for some of the cleansing processes that I use in my office are explained next.

Fasting

Fasting is a well-known method of cleansing. There are many types of fasts; some simple and others are more complicated. They all have the same basic principle in common: give the body a chance to rest from the daily processes of digesting and metabolizing food and allow the body time to cleanse and purify itself.

The following protocols are presented in their order of simplicity and ease of application.

Three-day Juice Fast

This is an easy to follow and uncomplicated fast.

Breakfast:

Have citrus juice in the morning, either freshly squeezed orange or grapefruit juice. Another alternative is to purchase Biotta Vita 7 organic fruit and vegetable cocktail.

Drink as much as you want.

Lunch:

Drink vegetable juices in the afternoon and add one or more of the following powdered supplements: Perfect Food, Bio Nutrition, Barley Green, Green Kamut, and Just Carrots. Biotta has an excellent variety of certified organic vegetable juices that are perfect for this type of fast. Drink all you want, V8 and garden cocktail are okay but they do contain some preservatives, which are not ideal for fasting

Dinner:

Drink vegetable juices for dinner as well. Again you may drink as much as you like. For variety homemade vegetable soup may be substituted.

Snacks:

Whenever that hungry feeling appears have a large drink of water. You always need to drink 1 ½ litres (50oz) of water per day.

This is an easy to follow and very effective. There will be a weight loss of at least one pound a day. This is an excellent method of losing weight and cleansing the system at the same time. This fast can be repeated every week for 2 to 3 days until you reach your desired weight.

Lemonade Fast

Stanley Burroughs originally developed this fast in his book The Master Cleanser.

Ingredients:

1 ½ liter bottle, or 2 quart jug of distilled water,

Freshly squeezed lemon juice

Genuine maple syrup, cayenne pepper, sea salt, multiple vitamins

Do not substitute

Rationale

  • The maple syrup will provide the vitamins and minerals necessary to sustain a fast as well as the necessary carbohydrates to give you energy.
  • The lemon juice provides the cleansing and laxative effect.
  • The cayenne pepper breaks up the mucous, warms up the blood, provides an irritant to the bowels to get them moving, and also provides some Vitamin B, and C.
  • Sea salt contains lots of different minerals.
  • Overweight people should use less maple syrup, and people who do not want to lose much weight can use a little more.
  • No other food is to be eaten during the fast.

Mixing Instructions

Pour into your large sealable (1 ½ litre) jug, 10 tablespoons of maple syrup and 10 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Add a pinch of cayenne pepper. Too much cayenne pepper will spoil the mixture and make it unpalatable. Start with a pinch and add a little more to taste. Now add a little less than 1 ½ litres of 3 pints of water to the jug. Secure the top of the jug and shake it vigorously to mix everything together.

  • The bowels must be kept moving during the duration of the cleanse. In order to facilitate this, first thing in the morning take a full litre of quart of lukewarm distilled water and add 2 level tsp of sea salt. Shake well and drink the entire mixture each morning of the fast.
  • Carry the lemonade mix around with you all day and drink it whenever you feel hungry. You may drink more if you like but you must finish the first jug.

The hunger feelings are most prevalent on the first and second day. Having a big drink of your lemonade will satisfy that. If a mild headache occurs a few drinks of your lemonade will eliminate both the headache and the hunger.

Realization

Doing a fast of this nature helps you to realize how much eating consumes your thoughts everyday. You think about what you’re going to eat and where you’re going to go eat it. Much of your social and family activities revolve around eating. It is amazing how much time, energy, and money that go into this daily ritual. You will end up with as much as two hours of free time during the day that you usually take for eating. Doing a fast helps you to regain control over this facet of your life and helps you take back some of the power and strength you have relinquished.

Duration

This fast may be done from 3 to 5 days depending on your level of toxicity and overall health. It takes about 2 years of using the various cleansing process to “drain the swamp”, get completely cleaned out.

Signs of Cleansing

As the toxins are being eliminated from the body they must go through the body and consequently may cause symptoms as they are exiting. Symptoms such as: mild headache, coated tongue, bad breath, increased need to brush your teeth, increased body odor, and dark, smelly stools may be experienced. These are actually good signs and they let you know that the toxins are being eliminated.

Post Cleanse Diet

After completing the cleanse, it is advisable to gradually get back onto more solid food. Use the “one month” diet approach below to achieve that. Do this for 2 or 3 days before adding more solid food.

Supplements

Vitamin, mineral supplements and herbal preparations are permissible, it is advisable to continue their consumption during your fast.

One Month Fast

This fast is a healthy way of cleaning up the system and eliminating foods that may be causing your health problems. No meat, no dairy, no wheat, no sugar, and no white flour for one month.

Breakfast Choices: Pick only one per day.

  • Hot cereals – quinoa, oatmeal, millet, buckwheat, and amaranth.
  • Cold cereals – Dr. T’s famous blend: low-fat, low sugar, granola, oat bran, all bran, psyllium seed powder, Perfect Food, Bio Nutrition, Green Kamut or Barley Green powders, and protein powder. Use soya milk or rice milk with your cereal.
  • Fruit – have fruit that is in season. Do not mix melons with other fruits. Thick-skinned fruits such as bananas, grapefruits, papaya, and mangos are preferred.

Lunch Choices:

Salads. Be creative with your salads, and mix in a variety of different vegetables. Include such vegetables as: broccoli (slightly steamed), cauliflower, red and yellow peppers, red cabbage, kale, Chinese cabbage, endive, carrots, watercress, spinach, dandelion leaves, sprouts, avocado, and add some raw pumpkin seeds or almonds. Use Dr. T’s salad dressing.

Dinner Choices:

You may have two of the following

  • Make homemade vegetable soup with several different kinds of vegetables and include brown rice, lentils, or mung beans for variety. Or Dr. T’s vegetable soup.
  • Steamed vegetables.
  • You may also have a salad at dinnertime if you choose.
  • Organic meats: Chicken, beef or fish. Baked or broiled.

Water intake: 1 ½ liters (50 oz) of distilled or reverse osmosis water per day.

Inner Cleansing Diet

The original recipe for this diet comes from Thurman Fleet, Concept Therapy Institute, San Antonio, Texas.

The concept for this diet is a little different than most because you are urged to eat as much as possible of the recommended foods contained in the diet. This cleanse uses the life giving nutrition of fruits and vegetables to produce the flushing and cleansing action on the toxic materials that have accumulated over the years. The diet consists of just fruits and vegetables for seven days.

The formula for the seven-day inner cleansing diet is the same for each day but you may change the fruits and vegetables for variety.

Recipe for vegetable broth:

Prepare the night before.

Ingredients: The following list is of the ingredients you need to purchase for the week form your local vegetable market.

Fifty carrots, 7 celery stalks, 2 bunches of parsley, 1 bag of spinach, 7 tomatoes, 3 or 4 onions, 3 or 4 green peppers, 14 lemons, and one bottle of garlic puree.

The following recipe is for a one-day supply of the broth.

All vegetables are to be cut up finely, or if you have a food processor chopped finley.

  • Prepare 7 medium-sized carrots (washed and peeled), and 1 stock of celery. To improve the flavor you may add one tomato, half an onion, half a green pepper and one teaspoon of garlic.
  • Place the mixture in 2 quarts of 1 ½ liters of distilled or reverse osmosis hot water and boil for fifteen minutes (when you are steaming your dinner vegetables save the water to use for your broth).
  • After 15 minutes of boiling, add ⅓ bunch of chopped parsley and a large handful of chopped spinach and boil for an additional 10 minutes.

Full Day Diet Procedure

  • Drink 8 ounces of freshly squeezed orange or grapefruit juice. Biotta juices are also recommended. Frozen concentrates (no added sugar) are only acceptable if the previous two choices are totally unavailable.
  • Fresh fruits: Each morning for breakfast it is necessary to eat at least ½ pound of fresh fruits. It is best to stick to 1 kind of fruit for each breakfast. Do not mix melons with any other type of fruit. Do not have bananas or avocados during this diet.
  • Mid morning snack: At least one hour after breakfast and two hours before lunch have a protein snack of one of the following: unsalted cottage cheese, tofu, ricotta cheese, or a protein shake using protein powder and rice milk. (25 grams of protein for a large person, and 10 to 15 grams for a smaller person.) This snack is necessary to get some protein in on a daily basis.

Lunch:

  • Drink two cups of vegetable broth, hot or cold.
  • Make a salad of fresh raw vegetables. Use the juice of the whole lemon as your salad dressing. Use four of the vegetables listed below and rotate them for a variety. Try some of the new vegetables that you haven’t had before such a kale, Chinese sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, Chinese cabbage, red cabbage, white cabbage, carrots, celery, endive, broccoli, cauliflower, red and yellow peppers, kale, red onions, radishes, tomatoes, parsley, watercress, beets, swiss chard, collard greens, and leeks.
  • Mid afternoon snack: If you’re hungry between lunch and dinner you may have fresh fruit or a cup of broth two hours after lunch.

Dinner:

  • Drink at least two cups of broth, hot or cold.
  • Steamed vegetables: select two or three of the different kinds of vegetables listed below and steam them to the point where they still have a slight crunch. (Not soggy and overcooked) Eat as much as you can of these cooked vegetables. Once or twice during this week you may have a baked Redskin potato. Use fresh lemon on the vegetables and potato if you need a dressing. Save the water from steaming the vegetables to make your broth for the morning.
  • Vegetables to choose from: artichokes, asparagus, beans, beets, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, eggplant, corn, peas, kale, okra, onions, parsnips, pumpkin, spinach, squash, turnips, bamboo shoots, broccoli, cauliflower, green and yellow beans, red and yellow peppers, seaweed, yam, and sweet potato.
  • If you feel hungry between dinner and bedtime you may have fruit two hours after dinner or vegetable broth anytime.

Water:

Since you’re having two quarts/liters of water in the broth it is not necessary to have the 1 ½ liters (50 oz) of water normally required for the day. You may drink water between meals instead of having fruit or vegetable snacks.

Supplements:

Supplements may be continued during this cleansing process. It is advisable to occasionally change your regimen for taking supplements to give the body a change so that the body does not become totally accustomed to the same programme everyday. Therefore, it is okay to postpone your supplements for a few days during this cleansing.

What to Expect from the Inner Cleansing Diet

  • When you first start cleansing you will definitely feel different than you’re accustomed to. One of the first things you will notice is that you don’t have that bloated heavy feeling after a meal.
  • Cravings will arise occasionally. These are usually caused by the foods that you have abused and have become addicted to over the years. The craving is actually the toxins from those foods being eliminated from the body. Do not succumb to these cravings as this would defeat the purpose of cleansing. Be strong: the cravings will pass.
  • By the second or third day of the inner cleansing diet your bowels and kidneys will start to move more freely. Do not allow yourself to get constipated. If this happens during the cleansing, do an enema immediately to release the toxins. You do not want these toxins recirculating back into your system.
  • Mild symptoms of toxic headache (headache felt all over the head), slight nausea, intestinal gas, some aches and pains, feeling a little punky, foul smelling bowel movements, white coated tongue, the need to brush your teeth frequently, and occasionally some skin rashes may appear. These are the signs that the body is cleansing and are to be considered normal in that the body is working well and is eliminating the toxins.
  • By the fifth day of the inner cleansing diet, energy levels will start to increase, complexions will clear up, thinking will become clearer, moods will improve, and you will start to feel clean inside. You will become certain that you do not want to start polluting your body again because it feels so good and functions so much better when it’s clean on the inside.

What Does Mercury Toxicity Do?

The major source of mercury exposure to the public is amalgam fillings, which is six times more than is received from seafood. The World Health Organization states amalgam fillings can release 3 to 17 micrograms of mercury per day. Dentists are advised not to touch the amalgam: it is to be stored in unbreakable, tightly sealed containers.

“I don’t feel comfortable using a substance designed by the Environmental Protection Agency to be a waste disposal hazard. I can’t throw it in the trash, bury it in the ground, or put it in a landfill, but they say it’s okay to put in people’s mouths. That doesn’t make sense”. Says Richard D. Fisher DDS.

Many European countries have banned the use of mercury fillings. In Germany for instance, “amalgam is considered a health risk from a medical viewpoint due to the release of mercury vapors”. Chewing releases mercury gases when mercury fillings are present. More fillings produce more vapors.

The following is a partial list of symptoms that were reversed or greatly reduced by eliminating amalgam fillings: Allergies, anxiety, depression, dizziness, fatigue, gum problems, headaches, irritability, lack of concentration, lack of energy, memory loss, and that metallic taste. Mercury vapors are stored in brain and nerve tissues, kidneys, TM J, gastrointestinal tract, and the liver.

Dr. Bruce Shelton M.D., states that mercury disrupts the body in much the same way as Free Radical damage. “Mercury is a cumulative poison, which builds up in the body with repeated exposure, and its effects can be devastating”.

Mercury can prevent nutrients from entering the cell and wates from leaving, and block the enzymes necessary for the body’s detoxification process. Mercury can bind to the DNA of cells, as well as to the cell membrane, distorting the and interfering with normal cell functions. When this happens, the immune system no longer recognizes this cell as part of the body and will attack them. This is the basis of the autoimmune disease.

Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt M.D. states that in his clinical experience, “it is common for heavy metals to and accumulate in nerve ganglia (nerve bundles that are the nervous systems relay stations). This is why mercury toxicity produces many neurological problems. He also states that since mercury is heavier than water, “mercury tends to accumulate in the lowest parts of the body, such as the floor of the mouth, the pelvic floor, and the feet. Mercury accumulation in the nerve plexus can account for premature ejaculation and an enlarged prostate in man, and endometriosis, pelvic pain and hormonal dysfunction in women.”

Patients, who are chronically ill with FM/CFS and are not getting good results with their treatment programme, can expect to get more improvement if their amalgam fillings are eliminated. This is an expensive form of therapy and not financially viable for everyone. But, if I get a patient that is not responding to the regular treatment, I encourage them to have their amalgams removed. Removing the amalgam fillings eliminates the source of mercury toxicity, but it does not get rid of the mercury that has been absorbed into the body. Therefore, it is necessary to detoxify the body to eliminate the accumulated mercury residues.

Dr. Klinghardt, M.D., recommends Cilantro and Chlorella as being particularly effective in removing mercury from the brain and central nervuos system. He suggests 10 drops of cilantro tincture twice daily. Cilantro mobilizes the mercury from the brain and spinal cord but it does not remove it from the body. Chlorella is necessary to bind up the mercury and enable the body to complete the elimination of the mercury. His suggested dosages are 12 capsules daily (330 milligrams per capsules).

Dr. Daniel F. Royal’s analogy for mercury cleansing is quite good.

“First you turn off the faucet by removing the fillings, then you pull the plug through oral detoxification (with Cilantro), and lastly you drain the tub of all traces of mercury (with Chlorella)”. He has an extensive treatment protocol, which I will summarize. See page 205 in Alternative Medicines Guide, Chronic Fatigue.

Mercury Detoxification Programme:

  • Cilantro: 10 drops of tincture twice daily
  • Chlorella: start with one capsule for the first week after amalgam removal and gradually increase up to 12 capsules
  • L.-glutathione: 150mg daily (improves liver function)
  • Kyolic garlic: take one capsule with each meal (binds toxic metals and chemicals)
  • Milk thistle: take one capsule, twice a day (liver purifying agent)
  • Vitamin C: on the day before amalgam removal, take Vitamin C to bowel tolerance. Divide into hourly doses of approximately 200 milligrams each. (protects against the Free Radical damage which can occur when the heavy metals are being eliminated)
  • Microhydrin: 4 to 6 capsules a day (protects against Free Radical damage)
  • Vitamin B complex: 25 to 50 milligrams of each per day (to replenish nutrients lost during detoxification)
  • DHEA: 5 milligrams for men, and 2.5 milligrams for women daily (helps adrenal hormone production)
  • Pregnenolone: 10 milligrams for man and 30 milligrams for women (aids in the formation of key brain chemicals associated with memory and thinking)
  • Selenium: take 50mcg 3 times a day between meals (helps to bind up the mercury)
  • Acidophilus: 1tsp a half an hour before breakfast (replenish the bacterial flora)
  • Bentonite and Psyllium husks: mix 1 tablespoon of psyllium and 2 tablespoons of bentonite in a glass of juice daily during this detoxification program (Aids with the removal of fecal debris and the bentonite helps to absorb the toxins that have been dumped into the intestinal tract for removal)
  • Water: drink 8 to 10 – 8oz glasses per day (aids in the removal of toxins from the cells and the intestines)

Sauna Detoxification

Saunas have been used for centuries as a method of detoxifying the body. The skin is one of the largest organs of illumination and the method it uses is perspiration. Combining saunas with the above Mercury detoxification protocol will help the body remove the mercury and other toxins.

  • Preheat sauna to 140 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Most saunas are set at 200 to 210 degrees Fahrenheit, which is too hot for the prolonged period of time necessary for throughout detoxification.
  • Drink 750 milliliters of distilled or properly filtered water with gradually increasing doses of Vitamin B5 (Niacin). Start with 100 milligrams 30 minutes prior to entering the sauna. Niacin will increase circulation and produce a flushing action. It will take increasing amounts of niacin to produce this flush. Increase the dosage by 100 milligram increments to maintain a flushing action each day.
  • Do cardiovascular exercise for 20 to 30 minutes before entering the sauna to start the sweating process (running, exercise bikes, treadmills, steppers, rowers, or skipping).
  • Sit in the sauna for up to 30 minutes to start.
  • Take a cooler than normal shower. The purpose of the shower is to remove the toxins from the outer surface of the skin and prevent them from being reabsorbed. If sweating profusely, showers may be taken more frequently.
  • Take another 750 milliliters of water after the sauna.
  • Repeat this routine on a daily basis for a minimum of three weeks. People who are chronically sick may need to do this longer. Gradually increase the daily time spent in the sauna up to two hours. As the time spent in the sauna increases, increase water consumption by 500ml for each additional 30 minutes spent in the sauna.
  • Electrolytes must be replenished that are lost through perspiration. There are several products that will help with this. As sauna time increases, increase electrolytes.

Heavy Metals Detoxification

Each of us is affected differently by the toxic effect of heavy metals because of the following factors: dose and length of exposure, continuous or intermittent exposure, age, activity level, stress, and health status.

A toxic substance exerts its harmful effects on the body by either depressing or stimulating normal metabolic functions. Minute amounts usually stimulate function, whereas large amounts decrease or halt function.

Mechanism of the Damaging Effects of Toxic Heavy Metals

  • Enzyme activity is interfered with, causing many different unwanted reactions in the body.
  • Direct chemical combinations and reactions occur which directly affect the ability of the cell to function.
  • Secondary substances are produced by the body, which combine with the toxic metals and further damage the cells.

Heavy metal toxicity is found in many cases of FM/CFS and should be evaluated using the Electro-Dermal testing methods for their presence.

The Following is a List of Some of the More Common Heavy Metals, Their Source, Harmful Effects, and Possible Treatment:

All-Purpose Heavy Metal Detoxifiers to be Used with all of the Above

Treatment Protocols:

  • Get chiropractic adjustments to increase nerve supply and blood supply to the affected areas, thereby increasing the body’s ability to function and eliminate toxins.
  • Eliminate constipation (you must be eliminating with 2 bowel movements a day)
  • Cleanse the liver
  • Drink at least 2 liters (70 oz) of good water a day
  • Supercharged Ozonated water detoxifies all heavy metals
  • Glutathione, found in high quality Whey isolate proteins, Immunocal. Goat proteins and Alpha-Lipoic acid
  • Malic acid
  • A.M.D. Heavy Metal Detox by Ginestra
  • Homeopathic formulas
  • Chelation Therapies: the EDTA in the Chelation preparation eliminates the accumulation of heavy metals
  • Essiac tea is an excellent product to detoxify heavy metals
  • Saunas, at low temperatures (105 to 110 degrees F) for long periods of time (45 to 90 minutes)

Sauna Technique for Heavy Metals

Saunas at high temperatures stimulate the body to secrete water, whereas the lower temperature saunas, over a longer period of time, stimulate the fat cells to sweat. The fat cells contain large quantities of toxins; they should be encouraged to sweat thereby releasing their accumulated toxins.

  • Temperature, 105 to 110. degrees.
  • Time, 45 to 90 minutes.
  • The sweated oils must be washed off using glycerin soaps.
  • Vigorous scrubbing with loofah or scrub brushes is required.
  • Duration, 5 to 7 days a week for three months.
  • Detoxifying agents are included to aid the body in eliminating the toxins.
  • Consume extra water to help with toxin elimination. Increase by 1 liter.

Liver Cleanse

The major function of the liver is to cleanse the blood. When the level of toxins consumed exceeds the liver’s ability to cleanse them out then problems begin. The excess toxins are re-circulated back into the blood and carried to all parts of the body. They will accumulate in the inactive areas where the nerve supply and blood supply are the weakest. That is at the ends of the nerves coming from the subluxated vertebrae.

Liver and Alcohol

Alcohol is toxic to the body and therefore, the liver must eliminate it. The symptoms of a hangover lead to irritability, moodiness, anxiety, and depression. Consequently, the vicious cycle of the alcoholic is perpetuated.

Symptoms of liver dysfunction:

  • Abdominal bloating
  • Allergies
  • Bad breath
  • Brain fog
  • Coated tongue
  • Constipation
  • Dry, red, itchy eyes
  • Excess alcohol intake
  • Excessive body weight
  • Fatty liver
  • An inability to tolerate fatty foods
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Headaches
  • Intolerance to alcohol
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Frequent fatigue
  • Gallbladder problems
  • Nausea
  • Overburdened immune system
  • Overweight
  • Poor digestion
  • Sluggish metabolism
  • Unpleasant moods
  • Weight gain around the abdomen

Liver Cleansing Products:

  • Psyllium seed is an excellent source of soluble fiber, which is used to lowering cholesterol levels.
  • Taurine is helpful in healthy liver function. It is used in the formation of bile and also helps in detoxification.
  • Dandelion stimulates the liver and activates the secretion of bile. It can be used as a general detoxifying tonic because it also detoxifies the blood and kidneys. I use dandelion teas, and the Dandelion Blend (coffee substitute) from Swiss.
  • Milk Thistle is more of a liver protector and regenerator. It also removes toxic fatty degeneration in the liver. I prefer the liquid Milk Thistle by the German company Hubaton, which is available in health food stores.
  • Globe Artichoke also protects and rebuilds the liver. It is effective in conditions such as; skin diseases, bad breath, and excessive body odor.
  • Chinese Bitters is used for liver stress that is detected on the Darkfield Microscope analysis.
  • Liver tonics will include all of the above ingredients. The brand name Dr. Cabot recommends in her book is Livatone. Available from S.C.B International, 1-800-782-7014.

Swollen lymph glands and nausea is a sign of liver congestion. The lymph nodes will reduce in size when the liver is cleansed.

The Liver Cleansing Diet by Sandra Cabot M.D. is an excellent book; she has a section in it on how to put together a diet to clean out the liver. Her eight-week programme has three stages: 1. The first two weeks are a gentle introduction. 2. The middle four weeks are a more intense cleansing. 3. The last two weeks are a gentle transition back into a healthy diet.

Important Note

It takes two years to completely cleanse the average body of toxins all the way down to the cellular level. Therefore it is necessary to set up a schedule for periodic cleansing throughout the year. It must also be stressed that the amount of toxins consumed must be decreased considerably and the amount of nutrition consumed increased significantly. Otherwise the level of progress that is made is minimal and the benefit of cleansing does not last long.

The reason it takes two years to cleanse is because most people have had thousands and thousands of toxic meals and non-nutritious snacks throughout their lifetimes and their toxic residues must be eliminated. These toxins that have accumulated over the years must be eliminated in order to restore optimum health. This is difficult because the toxins get deeply embedded in all the cells of the body.

Toxins at the cellular level will not start to be eliminated until all the organ systems are clean. This does not happen with one cleanse.

The following schedule is recommended for anyone who is chronically ill. This applies especially to people with FM/CFS. Maintain the discipline required to complete this regime. Refer to the section on discipline and goal setting in Chapter 10 in order to maintain your resolve and complete the following cleansing schedule.

Turner Cleansing Schedule:

  • Start with a three-day juice fast. Followed by two weeks of healthy eating.
  • Do the one-month fast. Followed by two weeks of healthy eating.
  • Next, do the lemonade fast for five days. Followed by two weeks of healthy eating.
  • Then do the seven-day inner cleansing diet.

This is a total of 102-days for your first cycle. Take one month before you start the cycle again. Then repeat the entire cycle again taking 30 days off, and repeat the cycle one more time to complete three hundred and sixty-five days.

Once you have attained the level of health you desire it is still important to do regular cleansings three or four times a year. I find the best time of year to do cleansings is with the change of seasons, and with the start of the New Year. I rotate the different types of cleanings described above to maintain my health and slow down the aging process.

Do not make the mistake of thinking that doing one cleanse is all it takes to get you healthy. You do not brush your teeth once and have them stay clean for the rest of your life. You must clean the inside of your body on a regular basis just as you clean the outside.

Herbal Intestinal Cleansing Products:

As mentioned earlier, if you are not having at least two bowel movements a day you are constipated and require a thorough intestinal cleanse. Everyone else should do an intestinal cleanse 3 to 4 times a year.

The intestinal cleansing products that I recommend in the office are: Experience Herbal defense, Herbal Fiber Blend, Quo Vada, (RBC), Elderberry cleanse, Primal Defense and Bioxy. There may be other products available in your area or your doctor may have some that he prefers. The important thing is to get the intestines cleaned out.

To order any of the products see the last chapter for help.

Artery Cleanse

The blood vessels are the last areas of the body to be cleansed when doing a complete cleanse, in order to make sure that all toxic residues are eliminated. One of the best blood cleansing products is Essiac. This is an excellent blend of herbs that eliminate toxins, free radical damage, and damaged cells. The other product I like to use with older people to help eliminate plaque in the arteries and veins is called Pro Magna. This is an excellent multivitamin and mineral which includes 1500 milligrams of EDTA, the substance used in Chelation therapy to eliminate the plaque.

Other products available at the Health Food Store are: FLW from Maxion Nutrition, and HH from Innovite. Oxygen therapies also help to clean out the blood vessels from plaque and toxins. Another good product specifically designed to help the circulation systems is PROVEX CV by Melaleuca. Check with your Health Food Store they may have some other products that they are getting success with.

Chelation Therapy

Chelation therapy is an excellent way to clean out the arteries and veins. It is done with an intravenous drip, which contains EDTA, an ingredient that helps the body to get rid of the built-up plaque in the circulation system. The results are incredible. There are several practitioners utilizing this technique. Check out the following references for more details. I referee our patients to Dr. Hui in the Barrie and Torongo area. His website is listed below.

How to Clean the Gallbladder and Liver?

There are many variations to the gallbladder flush. There are 3 different methods that we use in the office. Hulda Clark’s gallbladder cleanse from The Cure For All Diseases is on page 552 and 558. It is a little more complicated than the one I’m going to give you now. However, it’s worthwhile checking out her version for more details. (She uses grapefruit instead of lemon). It is a good idea to clean out the bowels for a couple of days before you do the gallbladder cleanse.

Day one:

Take some Experience (or another natural laxative), or Psyllium seed and Bentonite at bedtime.

Day two:

Do a juice fast for the entire day. Organic or freshly squeezed fruit juices for breakfast, vegetable juices for lunch and dinner, and 1 ½ liters of water a day.

Day three:

Purchase from the Health Food Store, a pint of extra virgin olive oil, and eight or nine lemons from the vegetable market.

Measurement comparisons: 1 pint equals 16 ounces equals 473 mls. One cup equals 8 ounces.

Large patients, 250 pounds and above should use 16 ounces or one pint of olive oil. Smaller patients around 125 pounds, use 8 ounces or half a pint of olive oil.

Mixing instructions:

Measure the oil according to your size.

Max ½ ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice with 2 ounces of olive oil (4 to 1 ratio)

Heat this mixture in a pot on the stove. Do not use the microwave. Do not boil.

Just warm it up. (the warmer the oil mixture the better it tastes, and the heat makes it work better)

Prepare and drink this mixture every hour until the required volume of oil has been consumed.

Day four:

Stay close to home; eat only fresh fruits and vegetables for the day. Drink at least 1 ½ liters of water during the day to help with your elimination.

During the following month avoid fried foods, fatty foods, greasy foods, highly spiced foods, and desserts.

Example:

A 187-lb man would require 12 ounces of olive oil and 3 ounces of freshly squeezed lemon juice. This would take six hours to complete. Therefore, if normal bedtime starts at 12 midnight then you should commence the cleansing process at 6:00 p.m. The liver works at peak performance between the hours of 1:00a.m. and 3:00a.m. Therefore, it is best to do this cleans in the evening.

Alternative mixing instructions:

Starting at 6:00p.m., take four tablespoons of olive oil and immediately follow it with one tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Do this every 15 minutes until the required oil has been consumed. It is important that this be done all in one evening as outlined above. Spreading it out over a longer period of time does not get the same results.

Cleansing Symptoms:

Occasionally some patients will throw up some of the oil during the treatment. This is normal. Continue with the procedure. Drink some juice. Suck on the lemon, or go for a short fast walk. It is important that you do continue with the schedule to avoid leaving any debris that is in transit, in the liver or gallbladder. Go to bed when finished taking all the mixture. Sleep on your right side, on a heating pad or hot water bottle, for the rest of the night. Be prepared ahead of time for the next morning’s bowel movements. Have a receptacle (large bucket or pail) ready to deposit your movements into to enable you to wash and strain them to collect the gallstones.

Appearance of the gallstones: you will have many light green floating balls, this is the undigested fat. The green colour is the large amount of bile that has been excreted by the gallbladder. There may be some small stones or bile sand in these floating pieces. Most of the stones are solidified bile and have a green colour. They vary in size from that of a golf ball to that of a pea. Occasionally some red bile pigment stones are observed but most common are the mixture of red and green stones. Most of the stones will sink to the bottom of the bucket. Pour this excrement through a sieve and wash with water. Put the hard stones in a small jar and take them to your doctor. Be sure to mention that you no longer need surgery.

Some patients are disappointed because they don’t see any large stones. Using this process, many of the stones that were present in the gallbladder are liquefied and appear as fine granules, which are difficult to identify.

How safe is this cleanse?

I’ve personally recommended this cleanse to hundreds of patients and none have experienced any adverse effects. I have not had one single case of this cleanse causing a problem for any of my patients. This process may be repeated again in two weeks if necessary. It is also advisable to take Milk Thistle to rebuild the liver and help heal the gallbladder.

What is a Healing Crisis?

All cleansing starts from the top-down, from the inside out, and the symptoms disappear in the reverse order in which they occured. What this means is that you may go back through some of the old symptoms that you have had through the progression of your condition. It also means that some of the symptoms that you may not have had for years may reoccur in this chain of cleansing reactions. Do not be alarmed if an old symptom appears. This is actually a good sign; the cleansing programme is working and the symptoms have been reversed back to the time when you had the old symptoms.

A healing crisis usually lasts only a couple of hours but may, on rare occasions, last for a few days. Be strong in the knowledge that this is a good sign (even though it may not feel good) and that what you’re experiencing is actually the toxins coming out of the body. During cleansing, the toxins are extracted from their hiding places and brought into circulation in order to be eliminated. When these toxins are re-circulating, as they’re being eliminated, the body unfortunately senses their presence and reacts accordingly.

The old saying, “sometimes you have to get worse before you get better” best describes the healing crisis. This is also known as the “Herxheimer reaction”.

The Following is a List of the Type of Symptoms That may Occur with Changes in the Diete and from Cleansing Programmes:

  • Allergies are the immune system’s reaction to toxins in the system. When there are more toxins present in the body than the immune system is able to eliminate them, allergies are the result. If the symptoms are more severe than you can comfortably handle, decrease the intensity of the cleansing programme to a level that is tolerable.
  • Constipation may occur because the bowels are not used to eliminating such large amounts of debris and may occasionally get stuck. Do not allow yourself to get constipated and do the necessary intestinal cleanse to eliminate this condition.
  • Coughing is the body’s way of eliminating airborne toxins in the throat. It is not a bad sign, but actually a sign that the body is working well. Coughing may reoccur when eliminating parasites.
  • Cramping is often noted as the bowels start to work again. This is the muscle starting to contract and move the fecal matter through the intestines. The bowels are not used to the larger stool formations and gas can be released from the fermenting fecal matter that is encrusted on the intestinal wall. Make sure that you drink 1 ½ liters to 2 liters (50 oz) of water a day to help wash away the toxins.
  • Diarrhea is a normal reaction of the body when confronted with a high level of toxins. Your body immediately tries to eliminate them as quickly as possible. If diarrhea persists decrease the intensity of the cleanse and add more water to the diet to prevent dehydration.
  • Emotional upsets, irritability and anger can appear as these toxins are being eliminated. The toxins can actually trigger these emotions. The knowledge that the toxins are triggering these symptoms encourages the patient to decease the emotional ups and downs.
  • Fatigue means that the body is experiencing a great deal of energy in eliminating the toxins. All of the different systems are working overtime during a cleansing process and this may leave the body exhausted. Do not force the cleansing to be too fast. Be patient and eliminate the toxins at a rate that you can comfortably handle.
  • Fever is the body’s natural mechanism that raises the temperature of the body to a high enough temperature to burn off any heat sensitive invaders. This is the immune system working properly. Do not take medication or ice to reduce fevers. If the fever stays at a high temperature for too long, get that person to a Chiropractor immediately to have the nerve supply to the thymus gland corrected and bring the fever back down to the proper level. I know this is a new concept for some, but fevers are a good thing and should be encouraged with saunas and hot baths.
  • Flu symptoms are common, aches and pains all over, congestion, fatigue, fever and headaches. Relax. This is a good sign again that the immune system is working hard to eliminate the toxins that have been accumulating in your body over the years.
  • Frequent urination will usually occur because most people are not accustomed to the large volume of water necessary for proper cleansing. The body will gradually become used to an increased volume of water and frequency will normalize.
  • Headaches are a common symptom when cleansing because the brain is very sensitive to the level of toxins circulating in the body. A toxic headache is typically a headache felt over the entire head. The toxic headache occurs as a withdrawal type symptom when eliminating coffee, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and other habitual toxins.
  • Hunger can occur on cleansing diets because the body is accustomed to heavy, poor food combinations that cause a bloated, full feeling and therefore can be misinterpreted as hunger. Most of the time hunger is the body crying out for more water. Over time the body acclimates to this new way of eating and it no longer has that bloated heavy feeling that accompanied the old eating habits.
  • Intestinal gas will be produced as the encrusted, decaying, and fermenting fecal matter is dislodged from the large intestine. It takes time for the intestine to become familiar with the changes in the type of food included in cleansing and healthy diets. These symptoms do not last long. Be persistent.
  • Itching is a sign that the circulation is increasing to different parts of the body. If it persists, it is usually a sign that parasites are present.
  • Skin eruptions and rashes occur when the liver is not able to handle the level of toxins being eliminated by the body and calls into play the second-largest organ of elimination, the skin.
  • My first experience with cleansing programmes was with my father in my first year of practice 28 years ago. He started getting skin rashes from the cleansing and the supplements that I recommended. He went to his medical doctor who told him the supplements were making him sick and he was to stop using them immediately. He did so, and the rashes went away. I was very naive back then and did not understand that we were overloading his liver and his skin was helping to eliminate the toxins. When this happens today, I have the patient decrease the gradient of the cleansing to allow the liver to facilitate adequate without affecting the skin. Sometimes, if the liver has not been cleansed thoroughly it may be necessary to detoxify the liver again.

  • Sleep disorders occur when detoxifying because the circulating toxins interfere with the body’s ability to secrete hormones that control normal sleeping patterns.
  • Visual floaters or black spots can be seen as the body is cleansing the toxins from the system. The toxins are going through the circulation and can appear in the visual field. Bilberry is a good herb to take for floaters.
  • Bad breath is one of the first symptoms to appear with cleansing. If you have bad breath (and you are not cleansing) is a sign that your intestinal tract is backed up. This will ferment and cause bad breath. Bad breath can also be a sign that there is a problem with your teeth, gums, or a throat infection.

The Positive Side of the Healing Process

One of the first signs that patients are starting to get better is an increased energy level. This happens when the body is not totally consumed with eliminating the level of toxins that were previously present in the body.

The Other Positive Signs Will Be:

Better humor, better attitude, less irritable, increased memory, improved sleep, weight loss, improved appearance, more youthful attitude, increased productivity, regular bowel movements, improved relationships, increased strength, decreased cholesterol levels, normal pH, and an immune system that is able to handle day-to-day onslaught of invaders without any noticeable symptoms.

How to Deal with Stress

Stress is nothing more than how we see the events in your life and how they affect us.

You can decide if you want to play this game called stress. My advice is to decide that events are not stressful, but challenging. When you think of something as stressful it has a profound chemical effect on your body. But if you think of it as challenging then it takes on an entirely different connotation. When we are challenged most of us respond in a positive manner by rising to the occasion and meeting the challenge, rather than being overwhelmed by a “stressful” situation. The common attitude, when in a stressful situation, is: “I can’t do anything about it”. Whichever one you choose, you’re right, that’s what will happen. I recommend reminding yourself that:

  • We possess powers that are superior to circumstance.
  • In every situation there is that special something inside of us that can bring out the best in us.
  • Keep telling yourself that you can do it.
  • “I can’t” is no longer acceptable. Use “i can” instead.
  • One of my favourite affirmations is: “Tain’t nothin I can’t do”

Most of the books on stress provide avoidance techniques and coping methods to deal with stress. I’m not going to repeat them because they are largely non-productive and not very cost-effective. Check out chapter 11 for more up-to-date and workable solutions.

In most cases the diagnosis of “stress” is used as an excuse when the practitioner does not understand the condition presented before him and what is causing it. Rather than admit that they don’t know, the condition is usually blamed on stress. The patient is told to relax, take holidays, change jobs, get divorced, and do all kinds of avoidance techniques. The cause of the problem and the solution are not even addressed. Do not buy this “poor me”, victim approach. It only makes the condition worse.

Stress is Nothing More than How We See the Events in our Life.

Resisting, worrying, or protesting about a circumstance, event, or situation, that you are experiencing, or anticipating, creates stress. You are where you are today because that’s exactly where you need to be at this particular time in your life to experience whatever it is you need to learn, for your growth. Go with it, experience it, learn from it, even enjoy it, and it will not be stressful for you. If you do not learn from it you get to do it again until you do. Stress will also affect the weak areas of your body.
